On the Threshold
This was a club home project.   We had to make a pergola, were provided with all the wood and base and it was up to each member to finish the project at home and bring along to the open evening.
I had a print I wanted to try and reproduce so I asked permission to  do the project my way but would use the wood or at least some if it.

This is my version.

I will tell you the hardest bit for me was making the Ivy.   I had half done this gluing down as I made each creeping branch when I suddenly realised I had put the Ivy on 'upside down'  I had to take it off the wall as in real life by pulling and tugging it all off.
Luckily I had only damaged a few strands so re glued all the strands back on with the Ivy leaves falling down not facing upwards!

Victorian Potato Seller
This is from my latest project.  I have wanted to do this for a number of years, the scene is from a painted plate I spotted in a B&B we were  staying at in Birmingham whilst doing the Miniatura fair.  I have not done this fair for 6 years so it has really been enjoyable to make this.

Whilst waiting for his potato can to be made by my husband John, I placed him in my market stall.

Life is wonderful
Just had to let everyone know that my grand daughter Sarah heard  this morning she has a place at Lancaster University in Oct, so you can imagine we are all overjoyed.
All our prayers and thoughts  throughout her illness have been heard.
Wonderful.

Catch up
I have a long time to catch up.  My grand daughter has been very ill and had just had major surgery.   She is only 19 and this has been a very traumatic time for her and the immediate family.  Sarah has been in hospital on and off 4 times this year until her surgery.    She has Chrons so has used to being in hospital at least once a year since she was 11 years old.  This did interfere with her A level examinations as she was too ill to take the last two..  Letters from the Consultants, Doctors and her individual Tutors were sent with her exam papers so what the outcome will be we don't know and only hope it will not affect her results too much.

I have not done much this year at all.  I have projects from clubs not finished and show time is September!  must get working on those.

Weather not been good at all this summer, in fact it is the worse since 1860....when they called that the year without a summer, still got time to change for an Indian summer in the autumn which I think builds us up for the winter ahead.   OK  I will mention Christmas as it is now only 148 days away.

Bits and pieces and catching up.
I have not updated my blog for a while.   Real Life gets in the way at times and I know readers don't want to know about daily  mundane problems.

I mostly visit with dolls house club the first Wednesday of the month at Hindley where we have about 24 very enthusiastic miniaturists who all love to make a project during the evening and take it home finished.   Burscough club meets every 4th Wednesday of the month and also has very enthusiastic members ( 10 members also go to Hindley!) and several juniors who have now grown  competent to do the same projects as the adults!   This also means that every so often the clubs are following each other for two weeks.   We often want to make it each week but then there would be problems in getting anyone to do projects.

I also joined a R L  beading group but so far have only attended two meetings as other commitments have intruded and so am well behind all the other girls.  They are producing some wonderful work.   This is a bit like miniatures you can put it down for a while then go back to it again.

I have done a new scene with Joe Wareing still not finished yet but will post photos when  time allows.

I didn't exhibit at Arnhem this March due to other commitments and have not yet booked in for any fairs this year.   I do hope my customers and friends don't forget me.

Gave a dolls house away!
I completely forgot to mention I gave away a dolls house to a little girl in the Avenue behind our house.
I wanted to alter the kitchen where the house lived on a cupboard and had no where else to put it.   I was given it many years ago and my grandchildren have always 'played' with it so I never furnished it with expensive items.

Asquith & Alder
This is the window display for Asquith & Alder the ladies Edwardian Milliners and Gown shop.

I have had the How To Make  in Dolls House & Miniature Scene magazine.

I also have a DVD of the display showing step by step how to produce the display.
I stock the mannequins, small busts and have kits to complete.

The Wedding Gown...my version

This is my version of The Wedding Gown.
Unfortunately I didn't have any  silky silk only Dupion, for the lace  sections I had to cut and glue pieces of lace onto silk tulle.
But we got there.

Juniors Finished my Elegance in Red & Black.

WOW...three juniors ( aged 12 - 14)  finished their project with me.   I know it has taken longer than expected due to my health problems last year and their school exams and illness's but three have finished it    I am so chuffed and proud of them.
All the girls designed their own dresses.   I made the patterns, they did all the cutting out and sewing and finished off the gowns tonight. 25.5.11. ( We did have lots of glitter floating about in the air....but no one minded.

Wonderful Day Out
We had a wonderful day out at the Thame Fair.  Unfortunately an exhibitor had to cancel.  I was contacted from the waiting list and was offered the table.   This fair has such a good reputation I could not refuse it, so off we went.

It was lovely meeting up with old friends, hopefully making new ones and also meeting past customers from Miniatura, when I used to exhibit with them.  Talking and promoting minis4all my internet  email dolls house group, promoting minis4all.com the forum, minis4all monthly workshops, my own workshops, workshop of friends Joe and Joan Wareing plus promoting the Cotswold Miniatures Weekend in October I have no voice left.

The fair had a lovely atmosphere, to me it was something like the early Miniatura's at theEdgebaston CC, small but select.   A real credit to Felicity and Ron Holland who bought the fair last year after it had run sucessfully for the previous owners.    I know Felicity and Ron will nurture the fair as it is and add their own 'stamp of idendification' to it.   Thank you both for asking me to attend and for a lovely day.

I must add that Thame itself is a beautiful place and we enjoyed Friday afternoon looking around and taking many photos.

Coffee & Cream
Coffee & Cream is the name of this alternative vignette scene to Elegance in Red & Black.

The vignette  is for a new on-line workshop and I have nearly finished the step by step DVD.

Anyone wanting to take the workshop please contact me.

My New DVD's
I would like to tell you about the new DVD's I have produced but these comments from customers can speak for me..

"My New DVD's

I have just purchased Hazel's tutorial disk and must say that without a doubt
this is the best disk tutorial I have ever seen. I got the one with "Lady out
Shopping, Bridegroom, Little Girl Dressing and Old Lady Sewing. The pictures
are so clear and vivid and written instructions are extremely easy to read.
For the Lady Out Shopping I believe there are 99 still pictures showing the
steps to take.

Right now I am making "A Lady Out Shopping" with a fabric pack ordered from

Hazel also. I am so pleased with the entire kit and my lady is turning out
wonderful. I'm even tempted to try "The Groom" next ........... Thanks Hazel!!"

another " I have also just purchased Hazel's tutorial disk and must say that I
agree with you, this IS the best disk tutorial I have ever seen. I also got the
one with "Lady out Shopping, Bridegroom, Little Girl Dressing and Old Lady
Sewing. Thanks Hazel, and marvelous work!! "

This is a photo from the first customer who commented....arrived in this morning.

Been Busy

With getting articles finished for the DHMS mag and making sure all the text and photos correspond, nothing worse than a photo in the wrong place or text doesn't go with the correct photo.

Now working on my workshop of Elegance in Red and Black, doing step by step photos, hopefully will be finished this week.

We had a dolls house club meeting last Wednesday and at the end of Feb the juniors are or were going to do the gown of the above workshop.    They have managed everything else  but the gown will be a little too advanced for them.   I suddenly had a thought in the middle of the night, what about them designing their own gowns  as all young girls try to be dress designers at one time or another....that way each scene would be individual and it also gets the juniors learning about patterns and fabrics.   I have done an outline of a mannequin and then it's up to them....I just hope I can do justice to their designs although I will have stipulations as some fabrics I can't get . and some designs might be too hard for the  junior club members to achieve!

Yesterday
Yesterday I was amazed at the number of emails we had on minis4all publicly saying they enjoyed belonging to the list even though some don't postas much due to busy RL but only read.   I had a quite a lot of private emails as well.   I think the bringing together of like minded members has been one of the highlights of my life, I have really enjoyed it.  I know over the years we have had discussions which definitely had two sides to the story told but we emerged stronger, tighter and more relaxed with our hobby.

I look forward to many more years of looking over my list and encouraging many more to join us.

11 years old to-day.  E-mail
Minis4all the miniaturist group I started 27th January 2000 is 11 years old to-day.

I feel so proud of what the group has achieved over the years from a starting membership of 6 to a steady 300.   We have had members gain confidence through showing photos of their work to taking part at fairs and even to begin tutoring.  We now have on-line monthly workshops taking place with a choice for members to take part or not.

I have made so many friends over the years; chatted to thousands of people; encouraged many to take part in the hobby; and also said goodbye to those who have passed on.

If anyone reading would like to join us  minis4all-subscribe  @  yahoogroups.com  (no spaces before or after the @ this is just for spammers...they still try)

New DVD Tutorials
I have just published my new DVD tutorials on dressing dolls.

These have step by step photos of how to make up the clothes; how to wig; how to drape where required in the project.

There are full text instructions with each photo, paper patterns also hints and tips.

More Tutorials will be done through the year.

TIP
I recently had to complete a shop display for Asquith & Alder the Edwardian Ladies Gown and Milliners shop.    Everytime I placed an finished miniature on the display shelf it fell over.  The window display counter is permanently fixed to the front of the shop .

I decided to cut a piece of card the same measurements as the display shelf  and then place all the items I required into place with grip wax.  The whole display was then placed into the window with no problem at all.

Dismal Day

It's been really dark and wet, it's only 4.13pm in the afternoon and it feels later!

It's been one of those days, everything I have wanted I can't find so decided enough is enough and will leave it until another day.   This might refresh my memory of where I put things!!!

Only another 22 days in which to finish my 2nd  article for DHMS, should be OK with it but would like the days to be lighter to take photos although we have day lights, small fold up light box, ring lights for the camera, good natural day light is what I prefer.
